Appointment Types

We offer several different types of appointments here at Avian and Exotic Animal Hospital of Georgia.

Wellness Exam
We recommend checkups for all exotic pets every 6-12 months, depending on species. These exams are important even if your pet is not getting vaccines, as it allows the doctor to become familiar with your pet and determine what is normal for them. It also allows us to catch slowly developing problems earlier. Please bring a fresh fecal sample with you to this appointment, as the doctor may wish to check for internal parasites or other types of infection. Vaccines are given for some animals, and routine bloodwork is recommended for some species as well.

Sick Pet Appointment
If your animal is sick, we will try to get them in as soon as possible. The doctor will examine your pet and make recommendations for tests or treatment, and will go over an estimate before anything is done. If your pet is extremely ill or in an emergency situation when you arrive, it is possible your pet may be taken immediately to the back of our hospital so that treatment can begin right away, then the vet will return to discuss their condition with you as soon as your pet is stable. If we are fully booked, we can often still accommodate emergency appointments and will work you in between other patients, but there may be an additional fee for this service.

Drop Off Appointment
We know that some of our clients have busy schedules that don’t always fit with our office hours. You can drop off your pet as early as 7:30 a.m., or any time during the day. The veterinarian will call you after she has examined your pet and will go over recommendations, and you can pick your pet up any time before closing at 6 p.m. If you cannot pick up by closing, we can board your pet overnight for a small boarding fee. If your pet is having surgery the next day, we offer boarding the night before surgery for free, as we know it is often quite a bit easier for someone to drop off during the afternoon before rather than fight traffic in the morning.

Some minor services like grooming, nail and wing trims, injections, and incision checks can be done by a technician. These appointments are typically less expensive and easier to book on short notice. If a technician is concerned about something they see, they will alert a doctor and she may need to see you to have anything further done. If you are unsure if a technician appointment is right for your situation, please just ask!
